This position is responsible for leadership of all applications development initiatives in the Individual Markets, Investment and Corporate Systems Segments. This includes developing the policies, structures, and resources to effectively anticipate and respond to the organization's business strategy from an application development and support perspective.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversees the effective delivery of information services to major business areas including Individual Markets, Finance, Human Resources, Investments and Corporate.  Works with senior business, corporate governance and systems leaders to plan, organize and deliver a comprehensive set of information services which enable the achievement of business and corporate objectives and capitalize on strengths of the Technology organization. 
  • This position works closely with senior management to identify key priorities, critical initiatives, and desired timetables. This position establishes the policies, process management concepts / structures, methodologies, and the review and quality standards required to ensure that developed applications meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Designs and deploys department structures and teams to effectively accomplish deliverables within budget and according to company standards.
  • Develops and executes long and short-term project planning within assigned areas.  Determine project workload for teams within each department.  Prioritizes and schedules projects.  Executes deliverables through subordinate managers and ensures projects are completed on time and within predefined requirements and budgets.  Communicates high level projects status to key stakeholders and makes adjustments as necessary. This position is accountable for each department’s performance within assigned projects and support functions.
  • Accountable for all budget planning and monitoring processes within assigned teams.  Direct the preparation of budgets through department managers.  Implements necessary expense management measures to ensure the departments meet their expense management goals.  Ensure the attainment of revenue and profit goals by directing aspects of the organization.
  • Estimates staffing needs, schedules and assigns projects/work for each of the departments.  This position makes decisions on pay, performance, appraisals, work schedules, discipline and hiring.
  • Has ability to significantly modify the major or most significant policies and processes.  Has the latitude to make decisions affecting long-term operational results.
  • This position acts as the Liaison to the President of Individual Markets and performs all above duties on behalf of Individual Markets including attendance in Extended Leadership Team activities, monthly management meetings and weekly status reporting.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent experience is required.
  • FINRA Series 99 license required within corporate established timelines.
  • Minimum ten (10) years in progressive systems management experience is preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years SAP experience is preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years Annuities and Life Insurance experience is preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years Mutual Fund Investment experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work required shifts including weekends, evenings and on-call as necessary is required.
  • Works independently with full oversight over teams
  • Manages budget for teams that support SAP, Investments, IM, Corporate.  Cumulative total of $26M
  • External Vendor relationships,  Putnam and other company development resources

Internally:  all levels of leadership across the organization

Manages teams through Directors that over see SAP,  Corporate,  Investment and Individual Markets Systems
