Under limited supervision, supports investment portfolio monitoring and assists in/performs analysis of new securities investments for assigned portfolio. Assists in/provides reporting for assigned portfolio.

Primary Responsibilities

(45 %)

  • Performs monitoring of performance, credit quality and pricing of current portfolio investments. 
  • Demonstrates proficiency with financial statement analysis including the use of Capital IQ tools and internally developed credit rating models. 
  • Uses portfolio monitoring guidelines and models to perform preparation of annual reviews and watch list reports. 
  • Must possess solid business and investment writing skills, be able to present well reasoned positions and provide empirical evidence to support a position. 
  • Gains understanding of, and may assist in the development of, loss mitigation strategies.

  • Performs research and analysis on new investment opportunities in support of new deal origination activities.
  • Confidently generates independent opinions on buy/sell/hold recommendations.
  • Possesses the ability to manage a credit portfolio, performing the collection and analysis of relevant financial/performance data and effectively writing up new investment recommendations. 
  • Presents new purchase recommendations to team leaders and/or management effectively in both written and verbal format. 
  • Complete pricing calls, legal review and trade tickets for new private placements.
  • Conducts due diligence on new transactions and provides excellent representation of Great-West Financial to the public.
  • Completes the documentation and closing of purchased securities.
  • Completes all internal approval processes and documentation needs in a timely and efficient manner; learns credit policy and investment criteria relevant to the department.

  • Maintains an expertise in assigned industries which support portfolio managers. 
  • Review industry publications, attend industry conferences as necessary. 
  • Candidate will be responsible for certain industries under supervision of portfolio manager, and maintains a working knowledge of the sector, the companies with in the sector and is able to rank the relative attractiveness of investment opportunities in the industry.

  • Reporting and Management: Adheres to established documentation cycles, prepares Board investment summaries, credit ratings change memos, bond prepayment calculations, and Note Purchase Agreement amendment requests. 
  • Assists in/performs preparation and presentation of portfolio reports.
  • Independently develops analytical tools to assist the division in the performance of its duties. 
  • Can effectively educate less experienced analysts on aspects of credit analysis and credit processes specific to their sectors and to GWF in general.

Normal Office Working Conditions.

Travel up to 10% of the time may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or Mathematics. MBA preferred.
  • Progress toward Chartered Financial Analyst designation preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years, four (4) years preferred, of relevant investment experience.
  • Proficient in MS office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or Access.
