This role will be instrumental in our quest to realize the maximum business value from our enterprise data assets.  The Architect Data Gov will work directly with developers to build and maintain data models, and with Business Data Stewards to operationalize and maintain data governance in GWF’s suite of tools.  The Architect Data Gov has a working knowledge of the data governance and data management disciplines (including data quality, metadata management, master data management) and one or more relevant business subject areas (retirement products, life insurance, annuities).  Champion and tactical enforcement of Data Governance policies and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

  • On average over time, 1/3 data modeling (collaborative, support the tool), 2/3 supporting data governance (supporting data stewards).
  • Coordinating with data stewards to capture and validate business definitions, technical metadata, and data quality requirements.
  • Create and maintain critical data model, metadata, documentation that allows data to be understood and leveraged as a shared asset.
  • Profile and analyze source system data to determine data relationships, design constructs, consistency and quality. Perform data quality assessments. root cause assessment of data quality issues.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining data governance reporting.
  • Evaluating and assessing existing legacy data assets with an eye on modernization and simplification.
  • Supporting implementation of upgrades and future developments of data governance tool suites.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience

Other Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background and solid understanding of enterprise information management, including data profiling, data modeling, master data management, metadata, reference data, and data quality practices.
  • Previous hands-on experience with data management/governance tools, such as from Informatica, IBM Infosphere, Collibra, etc., a plus.
  • Ability to communicate Data Governance concepts to business data stakeholders and technology teams.
  • Ability to translate business input into a set of target data quality standards.
  • Working knowledge of SQL
  • Hands on experience with both logical and physical data modeling and data modeling tools (e.g. ER/Studio, ERWin, PowerDesigner)
  • Hands on experience with PL/SQL and Oracle database. Any other RDBMS (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, PostgreSQL, RedShift) a plus.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as other database technologies (Graph, Key Value, Columnar, no-SQL), Hadoop or other Big Data technologies (e.g. EMR Spark), data visualization tools (e.g. Cognos, BusinessObjects, Tableau, MicroStrategy), analytics tools (e.g. SAS, SPSS)
  • Demonstrated continuous learning of new technologies as they appear.
  • Effective negotiation skills including the ability to influence without authority.
  • Demonstrated meticulous attention to detail.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with variety of customers and stakeholders.
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision as well as be an active member of a team.
