    The Developer will play a pivotal role in taking our datawarehouse environment to the next level. Using a combination of ETL and reporting tools, the developer will greatly contribute to the design and implementation of code that will enable our business to have quick access to information. This role requires a person that works well with a team and can easily adapt to change. In this rapid paced environment, the person must possess a “can-do” attitude while demonstrating a strong work ethic. This position requires a person that will not only identify solutions, but also see them through to completion. Due to the breadth of responsibilities, a self-motivated individual is highly desired. This person should have a strong aptitude to help drive decisions. He or she will be actively involved in identifying the data warehouse strategic direction. There will be frequent collaboration with team members and frequent communications with internal client groups. Most importantly, the developer must have a willingness to learn and grow into the position. The developer’s day to-day activities include, but are not limited to, ETL development, data modeling, business intelligence development, production support, and solution architecting.

    Primary Responsibilities

    1. Performs technical triage on EASY system applications to diagnose root cause of issues and identify and / or implement resolutions within the Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
    2. Designs and develops interim program solutions that will support mass transaction functionality not currently programmed on the EASY system.
    3. Performs programming changes to existing EASY software applications to repair defects.
    4. Acts as a technical specialist and liaison between Application Support and EASY development teams to report software application defects and report severity / impact of defects.
    5. Collaborates with colleagues regarding development best practices and /or EASY application issues.
    6. Advises and works on strategic initiatives to mitigate and / or alleviate EASY application issues, including opportunities for process automation.
    7. Operates independently with some latitude for un-reviewed actions or decisions.
    8. Completes other duties as assigned.



    • Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science or related field (Information Systems, Mathematics, Software Engineering


    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field or have equivalent experience
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Self-motivated individual that thrives in a team environment
    • Demonstrated continuous learning of new technologies
    • Strong SQL development skills -- knowledge of writing complex queries, stored procedures, and query tuning
    • Experience with data modeling
    • Ideal candidates have experience with large volume data processing using one or more of the following tools:  Informatica, SAP Data Services, SAP Business Objects, Tableau, Oracle, Postgres, MySQL and other DB/ETL/BI tools.

    • This position requires excellent working relationships with all levels of all departments within Great West Financial / Empower Retirement.
    • Exposure to external clients is rare, but may occur with a complex technical situation.

    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:


    Office / Clerical: Frequent use of office equipment including PC, phone, copier.  May sit for long periods of time.  May stand, stoop, reach, pull and push on occasion.


    The noise level is quiet, but may occasionally be moderate as in a noisy office / call center when co-workers are required to be on the phone with customers.


    Core working hours, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm MT, are required for every member of the team.  Team coverage extends from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm MT, so employees may be asked to work different hours than their preferred shift when coverage is required.   Occasional overtime and weekend work is required.
